TLE March 2010 News Update!

Hey TLE fans!

It's a new month, which means a NEW TLE newsletter/update!

There isn't a whole lot to inform you about new material-wise, except give you a brief rundown of what has been going on the past few months.

Right now Scott and Andy have been enjoying home-time with their families back in lovely Melbourne, while Chris and his have been in a snowy New York. Hopefully they're watching the snow melt peacefully as the northern hemisphere gears up for spring. This is what our area is experiencing right now, and we're loving it. But we'll knock on wood, Canada has been known to get snow in April. Don't worry though, new songs are still getting written while they enjoy their down time.

Since there isn't a lot to report, we will re-direct you to some TLE related goodies to keep you occupied until some new and exciting news is released for our pleasure. Right now Fist2Face, TLE's official merch store, is selling some TLE shirts at the very low price of $10.00! Want to know where to get them? Simply go to TLE's Official F2F Online Store and make your purchases! If living locally in the Melbourne area and want your merchandise instantly, head down to Fist2Face at: 20 Railway Place, Ringwood, VIC 3134, Australia. It's just a short walk away from the Ringwood train station. While buying your merchandise, why not hop on over to the Living End's official forum and have a chat with other big fans? Then after you're registered, why not check out Madtwin's 'The Living End Meets with Fans' episodes? Trust us, they're the cutest cartoons we've ever seen! Olya and Vera are artists/cartoonists from Ukraine and we enjoy their work very much. We even had the pleasure of meeting them this past fall in Germany where we went and saw the boys seven times in nine days! What a whirlwind!

Well, that's it for now, we'll keep everyone posted when we hear of anything new.
Stay tuned.

The Living End on 'Mike Davies' Punk Rock Show' on BBC Radio One

The Living End are 'Under the Influence' on the most recent Punk Rock show with Mike Davies on BBC Radio One. They talked about their favourite influences, bands and eventually played a track by them. Scott chose 'the Power and the Passion' by Midnight Oil...Chris unsurprisingly chose 'Rumble in Brighton' by the Stray Cats and Andy surprisingly chose 'Pet Sematary' by the Ramones (in which he also mentions the Ramones museum in Berlin, and the acoustic gig we attended). Our guess would have been the Hoodoo Gurus, as he is always seen sporting one of their shirts and are a favourite of his. But nonetheless, very good listen!

Check it out below!

Scott Owen at Melbourne's 'S.L.A.M' Rally

S.L.A.M (Save Live Australia's Music) is a non-politically aligned, independent entity made up of musicians and music-lovers. (slamrally.org) The rally challenged the Liquor Licensing Victoria (LLV) whom over the last few months have made drastic changes that have closed down pubs and put Melbourne's local music scene at risk. On February 23rd, around 70,000 (yes, our eyeballs popped out of our head too) people marched down Swanston Street, Bourke and then up to Parliament where there were guest speakers and heaps of other music supporters wanting change.
As we all know, the Living End started out playing local pub gigs in the Melbourne area and 100% support live, local music. Scott had attended the rally, and also has a featured quote on the S.L.A.M website.

“We strongly support SLAM in encouraging LLV and parliament to re-assess their decision to categorise pubs with live music as high risk. For 30 or 40 years the stages in these pubs have been where Australian music has crafted an identity recognised throughout the world. If more venues like the Tote and the Arthouse close down there will be a real threat to Melbourne’s diverse artistic culture. Rock and roll gigs are a place people can blow off steam in a non-violent way. It ain’t our pubs that are dangerous. We really need to make some noise about this and show LLV that we are passionate about our pubs and our music and make them see it the right way.” (credit to: slamrally.org)

A LETTER FROM CHRIS CHENEY

Chris Cheney recently posted a blog on the Living End's MySpace giving us a little update of their progress. According to the update, Chris is in New York City at the moment for a little bit of writing time. This makes us wonder why he chose New York and if he's up to something else rather than just writing. Mini holiday, maybe? He also mentioned that he and the boys have been in the studio recently and have recorded around seven or so demos.

You can read the letter below!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
A MESSAGE FROM CHRIS CHENEY
DIRECT FROM NEW YORK CITY!

Hey all,
How the bloody hell are you?

Thought it may be time for a little update from TLEville...

Some of you may care to know we have begun work on album number 6 and we are off to a great start. YEEHA! After Chill Island we jumped into the studio for a week and demoed about 7 new songs.

It's never been the easiest task to write on the road so we didn't know quite how the first round would turn out. We were pleasantly surprised. It's hard to describe how they sound but we can say that we're really excited thus far. Some are very TLE sounding and some are not, but we've been pushing ourselves to keep it powerful, epic and above all else ROCKIN'! There are some definite stand outs and they quite possibly the most simple songs we've ever written which has been very liberating.

A couple of songs have almost an INXS like dance feel (don't worry it also has a metal sounding guitar riff!! It's all good!) One that has a very early Oils flavor and a couple are just big and anthemic.

Its a mixed bag but overall they have a very positive flavor to them.

I'm currently freezing my ass off in New York attempting to do a bit of writing and snowman making. Old York is still a mystery. Construction of songs going well but construction of snowman not. As I write this there is a blizzard outside but even in this weather NY is such a vibrant electric place.

Saw John Butler trio at the Bowery Ballroom last week . Damn that guy can play!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that despite it seeming like down time in TLE camp, behind the scenes it is full steam ahead. We have more studio time booked for the end of March to put some more ideas down.

So, until we meet again it's good night from me and goodnight from him, take it easy.

Chris
